PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana is a flagship initiative launched by the Government of India to promote rooftop
solar energy adoption across residential households. The scheme aims to provide up to 300 units of free electricity
per month by encouraging citizens to install rooftop solar systems and reduce their dependence on conventional
power sources. The program targets the installation of rooftop solar systems in one crore households across the country.

Subsidy Structure
Under the scheme, eligible households can receive Central Financial Assistance (CFA) based on the installed solar capacity:
1 kW System – Subsidy up to ₹30,000
2 kW System – Subsidy up to ₹60,000
3 kW System and above – Subsidy up to ₹78,000
The subsidy amount is directly transferred to the beneficiary’s bank account after successful installation and Approval.
Eligibility Criteria
To apply for PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana, applicants must:
- Be an Indian citizen.
- Own a residential property with suitable rooftop space.
- Have a valid electricity connection.
- Not have previously availed of a similar rooftop solar subsidy for the same property.
How to Apply
- Register on the official PM Surya Ghar portal.
- Submit rooftop solar application details.
- Obtain approval from the local DISCOM.
- Select an approved solar vendor and complete installation.
- Apply for net meter installation and inspection.
- Receive subsidy directly into the registered bank account after commissioning.
